Jalisco New Generation Cartel under siege across Mexico
At least 4 killed in separate attacks have been identified as CJNG members & how their instagram posts helped attackers find and kill them
Across Mexico, the unrelenting battle for power between the country’s drug cartels is entering a new and dangerous phase, one marked by brazen gunfights in public spaces and targeted assaults that suggest the stakes have never been higher. This week, two deadly shootouts—one in a bar in Querétaro and another in a restaurant bar in Cuautitlán Izcalli—underscored the lengths to which rival cartels are willing to go to settle scores, maintain control, and instill fear.
In Querétaro, the typically quiet heartland of Mexico, the sounds of gunfire pierced the air inside Cantaritos bar, patrons scrambled for cover as masked men with assault rifles stormed the establishment. At least ten people, two of which have been identified as members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), were executed in cold blood. One of the three alleged attackers was taken into custody.
They appeared to target CJNG members specifically. Omar García Harfuch, Mexico’s head of security says the attackers are linked to the rival Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel.
In Cuautitlán Izcalli, a municipality just outside Mexico City, gunmen once again unleashed chaos at a busy restaurant bar just hours after the massacre in Queretaro. Witnesses described a hail of bullets as cartel hitmen descended on the location, indiscriminately shooting at alleged CJNG operatives. At least six individuals were confirmed dead, and multiple injuries were reported. Authorities believe the gunmen targeted two of the CJNG's local network, executing high-ranking members of the group.
So, who were these CJNG targets that left bloody trails in their last moments? And how did their social media posts lead to their demise?
